In daily life, corn, as a nutritious and sweet tasting coarse grain, is deeply loved by the public. In order to maintain the freshness of corn and extend its shelf life, using vacuum bags for packaging has become a common choice. However, there are several key points to note when using vacuum bags to package corn, in order to ensure packaging effectiveness and food safety.
● Selection of vacuum bags
○ Material: Vacuum bags should be made of food grade materials such as PA/PE, PET/PE, etc. These materials are harmless to the human body and meet food safety requirements.
○ Thickness: The thickness of the vacuum bag is generally between 80-120 microns. If it is too thin, it is prone to damage and affects the sealing effect; Excessive thickness is not conducive to vacuum extraction.
○ Size: Choose the appropriate vacuum bag size based on the specifications and storage capacity of the corn. Generally speaking, the size of the vacuum bag should be slightly larger than that of corn to facilitate the extraction of vacuum.
● Corn pretreatment
○ Cleaning: Before bagging, corn should be thoroughly cleaned to remove surface sediment and impurities. Be careful not to use highly irritating cleaning agents to avoid affecting the quality of corn.
○ Drying: After cleaning, the corn should be dried for surface moisture to avoid excessive moisture that can cause moisture inside the vacuum bag and affect storage effectiveness.
○ Grading: Classify corn according to quality and size for easy packaging and sales.
● Vacuum extraction
○ Preheating: Before vacuum extraction, the vacuum machine can be preheated appropriately to improve the efficiency of vacuum extraction.
○ Bagging: Put the pre processed corn into a vacuum bag, being careful not to fill it too full to avoid damaging the bag during vacuum extraction.
○ Vacuum extraction: Place the vacuum bag filled with corn into the vacuum machine, start the vacuum pump, and extract the vacuum. The general extraction time is 10-15 seconds, and a vacuum degree of 0.08-0.1MPa is sufficient.
○ Heat sealing: After vacuum extraction is completed, quickly heat seal the vacuum bag to ensure a secure seal.
● Precautions
○ Avoid light storage: Corn stored in vacuum bags should be placed in a dark and ventilated environment, away from direct sunlight, to prevent corn from spoiling.
○ Moisture prevention: The place where vacuum bags are stored should be kept dry to avoid damp environments that may cause the vacuum bags to become damp or damaged.
○ Anti squeezing: When stacking vacuum bags, avoid heavy pressure to avoid damaging the bags and affecting the sealing effect.
○ Regular inspection: Regularly check the sealing condition of the vacuum bag. If there are any damages, leaks, or other phenomena, they should be dealt with in a timely manner.
○ Shelf life: Corn stored in vacuum bags generally has a shelf life of about 6 months, and it is recommended to consume it within the shelf life.
